Description

This design came from a visit to Kew Gardens, where Susannah spent time amongst the free-roaming peacocks that wander the grounds beneath the iconic Great Pagoda. The peacocks displaying their extraordinary feathered tails, the ancient trees, the park benches and the wandering ducks were all sketched and photographed on site before becoming the starting point for an original hand-drawn and hand-embroidered artwork. Every element — from the towering pagoda to the smallest duck in the distance — was first drawn by hand in meticulous pencil detail, then brought to life with intricate embroidery and beading.

The result is a scenic fabric in the great tradition of Chinoiserie — a style beloved by English interior designers for centuries, here given a fresh and distinctly personal interpretation. Printed in England in a bold monochrome palette with hand-embroidered  peacocks and ducks, it is a design of genuine drama and depth. A more playful and unexpected colourway that brings a contemporary freshness to a timeless design.
