April Sky is a hand embroidered artwork from the Stitching Sunsets collection, inspired by a photograph taken from Richmond Bridge looking towards Twickenham Bridge on an April evening. The setting sun has turned the sky a vivid sequence of warm gold, amber, pink and deep purple, silhouetting the trees along the bank. Thousands of French knots in wool and thread are stitched directly into leather, with gold and amber seed beads capturing the glow of distant bridge lights, and yellow bead reflections shimmering vertically in the pale river below — holding that particular quality of a London sunset caught in still water.
