January Sky, original hand embroidery by Susannah Weiland in a black frame with white mount. An abstract sunset worked entirely in French knots on leather, with sweeping bands of red, orange, yellow and pink giving way to deep violet and near-black, with the River Thames suggested in glittering seed beads and sequins below.

January Sky - Original Embroidery

January Sky is an abstract hand embroidery inspired by a photograph taken from Richmond Hill one January evening, looking down over the curve of the River Thames at dusk. Every element is worked by hand in French knots stitched directly into leather, using wool and fine embroidery threads to build a pointillist sky of crimson, orange, yellow and deep violet. The Thames below glitters with mixed seed beads and sequins in silver, pearl, copper, teal and gold — capturing the last of the winter light on the water. A luminous, tactile work that holds something of that particular London sky. Unique, framed and available for sale.
